Kara Rooney – besides being an interdisciplinary artist – is also an art critic, guest curator, and visiting lecturer. As an artist, she is involved in sculpture and the installation of new media. As a critic, her works have appeared in Art in America, and Hyperallergic. She also served as Artseen Editor from 2009 to 2016 for The Brooklyn Rail.
Her visual creation has been exhibited in local and international venues such as in New York’s Fridman Gallery, TOTAH, and Driscoll Babcock Gallery; in Turkey’s Pera Museum; Mexico’s El Museo de la Ciudad; and China’s Karamay Museum of Fine Arts. She is the artist in residence at Italy’s Palazzo Monti, New York’s Queens College Art Center, and in Czechoslovakia’s Sharpe Walentas Studio Program.
Rooney received her MFA in 2009 from the School of Visual Arts – the same institution where she also serves as a longstanding faculty. Currently, she is Rhode Island School of Design’s adjunct professor.
